As a Miami criminal attorney, and a Broward criminal attorney,  I believe that the most important thing available to a client is information.  Now, a good criminal defense attorney should be in constant contact with his or her clients, updating them on their cases.  However, anybody accused of a crime, or anybody who knows someone accused of a crime, should be able to access information themselves.  In this age of information, here are some helpful websites that may be able to answer your questions.

1. The Miami-Dade County Clerk's Office utilizes a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) that will allow the public to look up case information based on either the case number, the jail number, or the accused person's name and date of birth.  You can look up felonies and misdemeanors for Miami-Dade County using this website:  http://www2.miami-dadeclerk.com/cjis/.

2. Miami-Dade County uses a different system for traffic tickets, criminal traffic offenses such as Driving With A Suspended License (DWLS), Reckless Driving, No Valid Driver's License (NVDL), and Valid Driver License Restriction (VDLR), and DUIs.  Use this link to look up all Miami DUI, Miami criminal traffic, and traffic ticket information in Miami-Dade County.  You must have either the citation number, driver license number, or accused person's name and date of birth:   http://www2.miami-dadeclerk.com/trafficapp/AllSearches.aspx?menu=public.

3. As a Broward criminal attorney, I handle cases from Miramar all the way up to Deerfield Beach, from Fort Lauderdale all the way west to Sunrise.  Broward County uses a different system than Miami-Dade.  It is actually a more simple database that allows you to look up felonies, misdemeanors, DUIs, traffic tickets, and criminal traffic offenses such as Driving With A Suspended License all on one webpage.  All you need is the accused person's case or citation number, name, and date of birth:   http://www.clerk-17th-flcourts.org/Clerkwebsite/BCCOC2/Pubsearch/CaseSearch.aspx?SelectCourt=true&DisplayCitation=yes&DisplayType=Criminal.

4. I handle cases in Palm Beach County on occasion.  Use this website to look up any case you or someone you know may have in Palm Beach County:  http://courtcon.co.palm-beach.fl.us/pls/jiwp/ck_public_qry_main.cp_main_idx.

5. For appellate matters in Miami-Dade County, check out the 3rd District Court of Appeal's website at:  http://www.3dca.flcourts.org/.

6. For appellate matters in Broward County and Palm Beach County, check out the 4th District Court of Appeal's website at:  http://www.4dca.org/.

7. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) website is important if you want information on how to obtain a concealed weapon or firearm license, how to check for sex offenders in your neighborhood, and how to seal or expunge your criminal record.  As a Miami expungement attorney, I deal with FDLE all the time in submitting my clients' applications to expunge or seal their records.  Check out FDLE's website for more information on how to expunge a criminal record in Miami or Broward.  To discuss these matters further, contact a Miami expungement attorney.  Here is the link:  http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/Content/home.aspx.

8. This is the website for the Florida Supreme Court:   http://www.floridasupremecourt.org/.

9. This is the website for the Florida Bar.  If you need to look up information on a particular attorney, this is where you can search:   http://www.floridabar.org/.

10. This next website is very important, especially if you have had your license suspended.  As a Miami DUI attorney and Miami DWLS attorney, I am used to dealing with driver license issues.  Use this website to check if your driver license is valid.  If it appears suspended or revoked, this website should help you to figure out the cause of your driver license issue:   https://www6.hsmv.state.fl.us/DLCheck/main.jsp.

As you can see, there is information at your fingertips.  However, if you can view this information, so can the public.  This is why it is so important to expunge or seal your record.  Call a Miami Expungement Attorney to discuss how to destroy your criminal record so that the public cannot find it using any one of these databases.
