Fleeing And Eluding Ends In Crash In Broward County

News website www.local10.com reports that a high-speed chase ended  when the suspect's car rear-ended a truck on I-95.

Leading police on a chase constitutes the crime of fleeing and eluding in the State of Florida.  If the chase occurs at a high rate of speed, the charge can be increased to aggravated fleeing and eluding.  Fleeing and eluding is a third degree felony punishable by a maximum of 5 years in prison.  Aggravated fleeing and eluding is a second degree felony punishable by a maximum of 15 years in prison.

According to reports, Miami police began chasing the suspect after it was alleged tha the suspect may have been involved in a robbery

Police cars chased the suspect throughout Miami.  The suspect's car headed northbound on I-95, heading from Miami-Dade County into Broward County.

The suspect's car tried to exit I-95 at Hallandale Beach Boulevard.  The suspect's car apparently then rear-ended a truck carrying orange juice. The suspect climbed out of his car and was taken into custody.

This suspect will likely face charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer if the police allege that the suspect used his car as a weapon.

Depending on the other evidence, this suspect may face robbery charges as well.

Fleeing and eluding is a very serious crime.  It carries a mandatory conviction and a driver license suspension.
