High-Speed Chase Crosses County Lines
Recently, a high-speed chase made news in both Palm Beach and Broward County. News website
www.local10.com reported on the following:
Three young men are facing criminal charges after leading police on a high speed cross-county chase Wednesday night.
Undercover officers were patrolling a Boca Raton parking lot after reports of
car burglaries.
Police observed the young men in the parking lot and tried to stop them. As the young men tried to get away, they hit an officer with their car.
They continued to elude police down Interstate 95, entering Broward County.
Broward Sheriff's deputies joined the pursuit, deploying stop sticks to disable the car's tires just north of Cypress Creek Road, but the car continued for a few miles.
The chase stopped a half-mile north of Oakland Park Boulevard. That's where the 15-year-old driver lost control of the car, hit a BSO cruiser and crashed into a concrete divider.
One deputy was injured in the chase. He was taken to the hospital, but is expected to recover.
Since the suspects are young teenagers, they will first be sent to
juvenile court. If the charges are serious enough, they may be direct filed to adult court to face serious felony charges.
