Coral Gables Bank Robbery

A bank robbery in Coral Gables made breaking headlines this morning throughout Broward and Miami-Dade.

Police have confirmed that everyone is safe after a man was kidnapped and forced to rob the bank where he works. However, the bomb squad is still working to defuse a possible explosive device found strapped to the man.

Police confirmed that there was a subject with a bomb-like device on his person.

The FBI said this victim, who works at the bank, was kidnapped from his home and forced to rob it, first thing that morning. The FBI reported that three suspects accompanied him to the bank, but police arrived soon after, at around 8:30 a.m. Hostage negotiators tried reasoning with the suspects, but they somehow fled the scene.

Police were able to recover the kidnapped employee safely and now have him in custody.

Apparently what occurred (according to reports) is that the alleged bank robbers targeted the victim, a bank employee.  Committing a home-invasion robbery, the alleged robbers broke into the bank employee's home and committed a kidnapping by taking him against his will.

This type of crime also qualifies as a burglary with an assault or battery because the alleged robbers broke in with the intent to kidnap the employee.

The employee was then driven to Bank of America locations where he was forced to assist in bank robberies.

A hostage situation ensued, followed by the rescue of the employee.  The suspected robbers are still at large.

If captured and arrested, these accused robbers will face a number of both state and federal charges.
