DUI Fines

Florida DUI penalties are among some of the toughest in the country.  Other than probation, DUI school, and mandatory license suspensions, Florida law requires the payment of fines.

For a first DUI, Florida law requires that a fine be paid of no less than $500, or no more than $1,000.

With Blood/Breath Alcohol Level (BAL) of .15 or higher (first DUI with enhanced penalties) or minor in the vehicle, Florida law requires a fine of no less than $1,000, or no more than $2,000.

For a second DUI, you must pay a fine of no less than $1,000, or no more than $2,000. With breath-alcohol level of .15 or higher or minor in the vehicle, you must pay a fine of no less than $2,000, or no more than $4,000.

For a third DUI, Florida law requires a fine of no less than $2,000, or no more than $5,000. With breath-alcohol level of .15 or higher or minor in the vehicle, no less than $4,000.

A fourth or subsequent DUI is a felony DUI.  Florida law requires a fine of no less than $2,000.

Florida DUI laws are not only tough, they place undue financial hardships on the accused.  These fines are imposed on top of probation costs, court costs, and other probation-related expenses.

A good DUI attorney may be able to help you avoid these fines by fighting your DUI.

I am a former Miami-Dade prosecutor who currently practices criminal and DUI defense in Miami-Dade and Broward.
