FHP Looking For Impaired Drivers This Holiday Season

The Florida Highway Patrol is targeting impaired drivers through January 2. Increased patrols have been spotted on Interstate-95 over the weekend.

The agency is participating in a federal Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

FHP says 20 of the 56 traffic fatalities that happened during the 2010 holiday season -- 35 percent -- were alcohol-related.

DUI arrests are very common during the holiday season. Police officers presume that anybody out on the roads during Christmas and New Year's is impaired. For this reason, it may be more likely that you will be pulled over during the holidays.

Florida law provides for some of the toughest DUI laws in the entire United States. Be careful this holiday season, but if you get a DUI in Miami-Dade or Broward, call me.
