A Pompano Beach man was arrested he allegedly ran over the feet of two Broward Sheriff’s deputies.
The 26-year old suspect was reportedly pulled over by BSO deputies in the parking lot of a Kentucky Fried Chicken in the 400 block of W Atlantic Boulevard.
When a second deputy arrived as back up, both approached the suspect’s vehicle; one of the driver’s side, the other on the passenger side.
The sheriff’s office reported that the first deputy tried to talk with the suspect through the open window. The suspect was described by deputies as "fidgety" and refusing to comply with the commands.
According to reports, the suspect then hit the gas and struck both deputies as he sped off. Deputies followed the suspect to an apartment complex where he took off on foot.
During the pursuit two BSO vehicles were involved in minor single vehicle accidents.
A deputy with a K-9 was brought in and they tracked the suspect to an apartment. The sheriff’s office said he refused to surrender peacefully, was “apprehended with the help of a BSO K9”.
The suspect was charged with two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer,
fleeing and eluding,
reckless driving, driving on a permanently revoked license,
probation violation and driving with a stolen license plate.
Due to the probation violation, the suspect is being held without a bond.
Aggravated battery is normally a second-degree felony, but when committed against a law enforcement officer, the crime becomes a first-degree felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
