(1)(a)The term “false imprisonment” means forcibly, by threat, or secretly confining, abducting, imprisoning, or restraining another person without lawful authority and against her or his will.
It can be a lesser-included offense of
kidnapping.
False imprisonment can be a crime of
domestic violence or a crime between strangers or people in a non-domestic relationship.
Since this crime involves an alleged victim, it is taken seriously by prosecutors.
