Basketball Legend Accused of Hit And Run

The Miami New Times reports that former Miami Heat star, current Miami Heat executive Alonzo Mourning was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident. The other driver almost immediately filed a lawsuit. Mourning faces actual misdemeanor charges stemming from the actual accident. In Florida, it is a second-degree misdemeanor to commit the offense of leaving the scene of an accident (LSA).
The alleged victim, a 21-year old student, had already gotten into one car accident on the Julia Tuttle Causeway early last Sunday morning when Mourning reportedly came along in his Porsche and hit the student's stopped car. The alleged victim claims that his car then flipped several times, and that Mourning left the scene before returning about 45 minutes later in a car driven by his wife.

Mourning has now been issued a promise to appear (PTA) in court for the second-degree misdemeanor of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. He's also in trouble for leaving the scene without leaving behind information. It is unclear at this point whether Mourning has retained a criminal defense attorney.

If you are under investigation for LSA or being charged with LSA in Miami-Dade or Broward, call me to discuss your case.
