A 28-year veteran of the Miramar Police Department was convicted this past week of one count of lewd and lacivious behavior. Initially charged with two counts, the jury convicted the former police captain on one count and found him not guilty on the other.

He faces up to 15 years in prison when sentenced as lewd and lacivious behavior is a second-degree felony. The alleged victim was 15 at the time of the offense.

The Broward State Attorney's Office charged the former police captain with confronting the alleged victim and her boyfriend in a parked car in a Miramar shopping center back in 2012. The alleged victim claimed that the accused police captain made her remove her clothes so that he could see if she and the boyfriend were having sex.

The police captain denied the allegation.

It took the jury two hours to reach their verdict. Since this is a sex crime, the accused will undoubtedly be designated a sex offender in addition to any sentence imposed by the court.

Miami-Dade criminal attorney and Broward criminal attorney Eric Matheny represents clients charged with sex crimes in Miami-Dade and Broward.
