News source Local 10 reports that a man accused of hitting two pedestrians, killing one, and then driving away Tuesday afternoon has been charged with several crimes, including DUI manslaughter.
The accused is a 48-year old Hialeah man who was arrested after the incident at 79th Street and Northwest 27th Avenue in Miami-Dade County.
According to Miami-Dade Police, the accused was driving a pickup truck that hit two pedestrians at the intersection and then drove away. A witness in another pickup truck forced the accused's vehicle off the road, and officers arrested him.
Both pedestrians were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where one of them died. The other was in serious but stable condition.
Police said they believe another vehicle also was involved in the initial crash and drove away. No information has been released about that vehicle or driver.
Aliaga faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and serious bodily injuries (LSA with Death), DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injuries and DUI property damage.
These crimes are very serious. In Florida, DUI manslaughter carries a mandatory minimum 4-year prison term.
