According to the Sun Sentinel, Florida has a new computer system that helps to track purchasers and providers of prescription medication.

Doctors and pharmacists will be able to check to see if a patient has received prescription drugs elsewhere. This is a crime known as "doctor shopping."

Pharmacies must report every prescription filled for substances such as oxycodone, Xanax and Vicodin. Under this new database, doctors and pharmacists should be able to tell if a previous prescription has been filled.

In its endless fight against trafficking in prescription drugs, Florida's government has implemented this new database as a way to track prescription drug users.

Trafficking in prescriptions in the most serious of all trafficking offenses in the entire state. Mandatory sentences range from 3 years, up to 25 years, depending on the substance and weight of the drug.
