Monroe County authorities are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a Miami man accused of contracting without a license.
Deputies said that the accused, who claims to own an awning business, took nearly $7,000 worth of checks in February and March as a down payment to build awnings for three Calusa Campground property owners in Key Largo.
Allegedly, no work was ever done, and authorities have not been able to find the accused, officials said.
Since money was allegedly accepted and no work had begun, the man could face additional charges of grand theft.
If work has begun, then grand theft can usually not be charged. However, if no work ever commences, then the theft charge can be sustained. Contracting without a license is a misdemeanor unless it is a state of emergency.
