A North Miami man is on trial in Miami-Dade Circuit Court after being charged with manslaughter. The man is accused of pushing another man off of his boat while out at sea two years ago.
The defense attorney's position is that the man was posing a danger to the people on the boat and that the accused pushed the man into the water to protect the other passengers.
Unfortunately, while the alleged victim was in the water, he was struck by the propellers from another boat and was killed.
The state argues that the accused acted with reckless disregard for human life and that the death of the alleged victim is the fault of the accused's.
Manslaughter is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in state prison.
