Pop Star Investigated For Robbery on South Beach

Aggressive Trial Attorney With a Reputation for Success
|

Pop star Chris Brown is currently investigation by the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office and Miami Beach Police Department for an alleged incident of robbery by sudden snatching.

Robbery by sudden snatching is a 3rd-degree felony punishable by a maximum of 5 years in prison.

The allegations are that a fan was following the singer out of Cameo, a South Beach nightclub. Mr. Brown entered his car when the fan allegedly stood beside his car taking a photograph with her iPhone. It is alleged that Mr. Brown then reached his hand out of the car window and snatched the iPhone from the fan's hand. The car then supposedly drove off with Mr. Brown still in possession of the fan's property.

As of today, there has not been a charging decision made. Police and prosecutors are interviewing witnesses before deciding how to proceed.

If Mr. Brown is arrested, it will violate his probation in California.

Eric Matheny is a Miami-Dade and Broward criminal defense attorney.
