A veteran Miami-Dade Corrections Officer has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted second degree murder for allegedly shooting her husband.

This crime will be classified as a crime of domestic violence because it occurred between a husband and wife.

The accused Corrections Officer bonded out of jail because both crimes are bondable offenses. Neither carries a life term so under Florida law, a monetary bond must be imposed.

Aggravated battery with a firearm is a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Attempted second-degree murder with a firearm is also a first-degree felony punishable by 30 years in prison. Both crimes are normally second-degree felonies however because a firearm is used, the crime is enhanced one degree.
