Broward Sheriff's Deputies Catch Alleged Burglars Fleeing Home

WSVN reports that two alleged burglars are in police custody after they were caught during a burglary, and police say the duo may be responsible for others in the Weston area.

Earlier this week, an elderly Weston man allegedly walked inside his home and discovered a man attempting to burglarize his residence.

It is alleged that the burglary suspect pushed the elderly man as he was attempting to escape from the home.

According to police, the 22-year-old suspect was inside the elderly man's home, stealing his jewelry.  Police said that a juvenile accomplice was outside the alleged victim's home in a getaway car.

The two suspects fled the scene on foot.

A foot chase ensued, but Broward Sheriff's deputies later caught up with the alleged burglars and took them into custody.

The juvenile will initially go to juvenile court.  The State Attorney will make the decision whether to keep his case in juvenile court or whether to direct file the case to Circuit Court.

When police caught the alleged burglar, he reportedly had the stolen jewelry in his pockets.  Under Florida law, possession of recently stolen items can be used as proof in a burglary prosecution.

The alleged burglar supposedly has a long criminal record.  He was just released from prison in 2011, which would designate him a Prison Releasee Reoffender (PRRP) on this charge.

The alleged burglar may face more serious felony charges since it is alleged that he pushed the occupant of the home.  He may face burglary with an assault or battery charge, in addition to grand theft and resisting an officer without violence.
