A Broward County mother and son are facing a number of serious felony charges after being accused of stealing from multiple Toys R' Us stores nationwide.

The dollar amount the mother and son duo are accused of stealing exceeds $4 million.

Broward Sheriff's Office investigators allege that the mother and son would go into Toys R' Us stores, empty inexpensive toy boxes and fill them with expensive toys. Then they would take the inexpensive toy boxes to the checkout counter, pay for the inexpensive item while all along, the expensive item was inside of the box. Then they would sell the expensive items on the Internet.

BSO alleges that they have video surveillance showing this scheme in action.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the son is being charged with 13 counts. Those counts include five counts of grand theft, one count of dealing in stolen property, one count of fraudulently obtaining property in excess of $50,000, several counts of criminal conspiracy, and several counts of petit theft.

His bond has been set at over $300,000.

The mother is facing several of the same charges, although not as many as her son.

Grand theft in the third-degree requires proof that the value of the property stolen was between $300 and $20,000. The crime is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
