A caretaker who worked for an elderly Pompano Beach woman has been accused of stealing jewelry and then selling it to a pawn shop.

The accused caretaker has been charged with grand theft and dealing in stolen property. She also faces charges of exploitation of the elderly.

The accused reportedly gave a statement to officers where she admitted to pawning the jewelry, but maintained that the jewelry was given to her as a gift.

Grand theft carries a maximum of 5 years in prison. Dealing in stolen property carries a maximum of 15 years in prison.

It is unknown at this time whether the accused will face the additional felony charge of false verification to a pawnbroker.
