South Florida Reports High Numbers of Cargo Thefts

Today's
Sun Sentinel reports that South Florida has seen a rise in cargo thefts over the past decade.
Cargo thefts, which can consist of massive heists involving millions of dollars in stolen goods.
If violence of any type of break-in is used to obtain the property, charges such as
robbery or
burglary may also follow.
Grand theft in the first degree is a first-degree felony punishable by a maximum of 30 years in prison.
Restitution is almost always a condition of any plea negotiation.
Cargo theft crimes are taken seriously by prosecutors, and may be assigned to specialized economic crimes units to their organized, sophisticated nature.
