In an effort to combat impaired driving, the Florida Highway Patrol is launching a "Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
It's actually part of a national campaign, which will run from August 17, 2012 - September 3, 2012.
The campaign will include increased patrols on interstates and state roads with high traffic. With Labor Day Weekend occurring from August 31 - September 3, FHP will be out specifically targeting impaired drivers in and around the popular South Florida tourist destinations such as Fort Lauderdale and South Beach.
DUI penalties in Florida are some of the harshest nationwide. Officers will look for traffic infractions as a excuse to pull you over, but once they are at your driver's side window, they will look for "signs of impairment." Signs of impairment include bloodshot eyes, flushed face, slurred speech, and an odor of alcohol.
