A major cargo theft ring in Miami-Dade County has been broken up by law enforcement. Police say that five Miami-Dade County residents are responsible for stealing nearly $1.2 million in cargo.
Police claim that the five suspects drove around the state in rental cars for the purpose of looking for tractor trailers that could be stolen. These tractor trailers contained thousands of dollars in cargo that was being shipped throughout the state.
The goods, once stolen, were sold illegally.
Charges range from racketeering, organized scheme to defraud, and grand theft.
Grand theft involving goods valued at over $100,000 is grand theft in the first degree, punishable by thirty years in prison.
