According to Local 10, hundreds of cars have been broken into and dozens more have been stolen at Tropical Park in Miami-Dade County.

Police state that within the last six months, approximately 364 cars and trucks have been broken into and another 80 have been stolen within a 1½-mile radius of Tropical Park, which is at Southwest 79th Avenue and Bird Road.

Property crimes involving cars are typically 3rd degree felonies, punishable by 5 years in prison in Florida.

Breaking into a car with the intent to commit a crime inside of the car (such as theft) is a burglary of an unoccupied conveyance.

Stealing a car is grand theft auto.

First-time offenders may be able to get into Pretrial Intervention, whereas repeat offenders may be looking at jail or even prison.

However, if the same suspects are responsible for all of these burglaries and thefts, it is likely that the State will seek prison time as this may be symptomatic of a large-scale operation.
